kianOS
In development, not ready to download yet

The free PC system that's easy to switch to.

Bring your files, bookmarks and Wi-Fi with you from Windows. A built-in helper fixes things in plain words, and anything it changes can be undone.

First look: the kianOS wallpaper. Screens of the full desktop are coming soon.

What's inside

Each feature is marked honestly: Built, testing means the code exists and is being tested; In progress means it's being built now; Planned means it's designed but not built yet.

In progress

Move in from Windows

Copies your documents, pictures, desktop and downloads, plus your browser bookmarks and saved Wi-Fi networks. Your Windows stays as it was.

In progress

Install from inside Windows

Download one app, and it sets kianOS up next to Windows. No USB stick needed on most PCs. Changed your mind? Remove it again.

Built, testing

Switch to Windows and back

"Restart into Windows" and "Restart into kianOS" buttons, and a one-click repair for the start-up menu.

In progress

A helper that fixes things

Tell it what's wrong in your own words: printer stuck, PC slow, disk full. It explains, asks before changing anything, and keeps an Undo.

Built, testing

Undo for everything

Every change the system makes records how to put it back. Updates take a safety copy first.

Built, testing

"What's running" with On / Off

Nothing extra runs in the background unless you turn it on. One screen shows every background part, what it's for, and a switch.

In progress

Updates you choose

"Updates ready. Install now?" Never automatic, always with a way back.

Planned

Family Remote Help

Grandma presses "Get help". Family sees her screen only after she presses Allow, with a banner on screen the whole time.

Planned

Your PC from your phone

Pair your phone and ask your PC things from anywhere: check on it, fix something, or send a voice note like "email Susan that I'll be late". Nothing is sent without your Yes.

In progress

Voice Control

Hold a key and talk to your PC. The microphone is only on while you hold it. Speech is turned into text on the PC itself.

In progress

Receipt and Mileage Trackers

Snap a receipt and the PC reads the store, date and total for you. Log trips for mileage. Your records stay on your PC.

Planned

One Store, fair prices

Apps people often pay a lot for, offered at a fraction of the price, alongside free apps. Every app is checked and signed.

In progress

Everyday apps built in

Dictation, transcription, text from scans (OCR), PDF fill and sign, backups, photo import, printing and scanning, all with simple screens.

In progress

Games

A "Will my games work?" check before you switch, and support for the games that run well on Linux.

In progress

Security first

Secure Boot stays on, apps can't change the system on their own, and every system change goes through one checked, logged path.

Privacy

kianOS doesn't collect data about you or how you use your PC. It only connects to the internet when you ask it to, plus a check for updates and the clock.

On the PC by default

The helper, dictation and the receipt reader run on your own PC whenever it's big enough.

Online only if you choose it

With kianOS Help online, your questions pass through our server to the AI and aren't kept. We store your plan and how much you've used, not what you asked.

You can see it

"What's running" shows everything working in the background, and each part has an Off switch.

Open source

The kianOS system will be published under the GPL-3.0 licence, so anyone can read it, try it and improve it. The code page opens together with the first download.
